Clevedon Pier and Heritage Trust has launched a search for a new chair to promote and preserve the only Grade I listed pier in England.
The charity, known for preserving and promoting the distinctive Clevedon Pier, has opened its doors to generations, attracting an average of 100,000 visitors annually.
The pier, which initially opened in 1869, boasts a rich and fascinating history.
The trust's efforts have significantly enhanced the visitor experience, adding a visitor centre, restaurant, cafe, an interactive exhibition, and a meeting room with unparalleled views.
Such improvements helped them secure the Pier of the Year award in 2021.
The financial aspect of the charity is in good health, having raised enough funds to cover the first five years of a 20-year maintenance programme, equivalent to £2 million.
To ensure the pier's full preservation, it is paramount that the charity maintains a financial surplus of £100,000 per year.
The role of the chair of the board of directors is considered crucial to the future of the pier and the trust.
Their duties will include setting the organisation's strategic direction and working closely with the senior leadership team to ensure operational and financial successes.
They hope to find an adept and innovative individual who can inject fresh ideas into the trust's strategy, have substantial leadership experience, and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.
The chair's responsibilities will also extend to managing communications with the local community and press and will be expected to seek external sources of funding while maintaining liaisons with key stakeholders.
They are expected to have been involved in committee work and must align with the values and principles of the trust.
