HOLIDAYMAKERS flying from Bristol Airport have been warned to expect possible delays as work to upgrade the ageing electricity network around the airport resumes.
Work to put in new underground high voltage cables on the Downside Road junction on the A38 will resume next week, from Monday, January 22.
Work on the cables, some of which date back to the 1950s, is expected to finish on Friday, February 2.
Originally, the installation, which began in the autumn, was planned to be completed by Christmas but a fault at a Portishead substation meant the project had to be suspended in December.
To manage traffic, a contraflow system will be in place. Signs will be put up on surrounding roads.
Lewis Smith, area team manager for National Grid Electricity Distribution, said: “We apologise for the delay in getting this cable-laying work finished and for the inconvenience this may cause people using the A38 and Bristol Airport.
“This £300,000 project is essential to upgrade the network for customers locally and will mean more reliable power supplies. It will also meet the growing demand for electricity for many years to come.”
