The Environment Agency has issued several flood alerts for Devon and Somerset today, (October 29).
The Environment Agency breaks down its alerts into three categories, yellow, which means Flooding is possible in this area and people should be prepared. Monitor local water levels and weather conditions. Avoid using low-lying footpaths or entering areas prone to flooding. Start acting on your flood plan if you have one.
Red means that flooding is expected in this area. This means properties are at risk of flooding. People should take action to protect themselves and their property and monitor local weather and river conditions. Avoid contact with, walking or driving through flood water. Consider activating any property flood protection products you may have.
Two red alerts have been issued for the following areas.
- River Brue and Glastonbury Millstream from Lovington to Highbridge, low-lying properties.
- River Yeo from Sherborne to Yeovil.
Amber alerts have been issued in Somerset for the following areas.
- Somerset coast at Portishead and Portbury Dock.
- Somerset coast at Clevedon.
- Somerset coast at Minehead, Bridgwater, Burnham-on-Sea and Uphill to Kingston Seymour.
- East Somerset Rivers.
- Lower Tone and Parrett Moors.
- Rivers Yeo and Parrett, downstream of Yeovil to Steart.
- River Yeo and River Parrett Moors around Muchelney and Thorney.
- South Somerset Rivers, Upper Reaches.
- River Cale and tributaries.
- West Somerset Streams.
- Somerset Coast at Porlock Weir.
