A MEMBER of Portishead Rotary Club will run three marathons in three days to raise money for charity, next month.
Phred Steer hopes to raise £4,750 for Bristol Children's Hospital charity, The Grand Appeal, raising awareness for the good they do along with local schools and the Rotary Club.
The Atlantic Coastal Challenge will see Phred run from Padstow to Lands' End over the course of 72 hours.
Phred suffered a mild heart attack eleven years ago, and began running shortly after in hopes to lead a healthier lifestyle.
Just five years later, Phred faced further adversity when his daughter was diagnosed with cancer.
After witnessing the work that Bristol Royal Childrens Hospital and The Grand Appeal do, Phred felt inspired, and decided to channel his passion for running into a way to raise awareness and funds for these important causes.
His aim by completing the Atlantic Coastal Challenge, as well as other fundraising efforts, is to raise money for alternative therapies at the hospital - particularly Reiki therapy for children on the Starlight ward, where his daughter spent a lot of time during her treatment.
The therapy can help children and adults to cope with treatment during their illness by keeping a positive mindset, as well as lessening anxiety.
Phred described The Grand Appeal charity as "a beacon of light for sick children and their families”.
Donation to Phred's inspirational efforts can be made on his JustGiving page.
