A local businesswoman, mum and caregiver from Clevedon has announced the start of her fundraising campaign, called Project Disneyland, with a Superhero Day on Friday September 15.
Participants are encouraged to dress up like their favourite superheroes, and come along to enjoy cakes, drinks and games in aid of a once in a lifetime trip being planned for Kaddy Thomas' son Elijah, who was left with catastrophic brain damage following an infection after surgery,
The project aims to raise money to take Elijah to Disneyland to celebrate his 18th birthday.
Elijah requires a team of round the clock carers, and in order to cover the cost of flying carers, Kaddy and Elijah have travelled to Florida in the specialist air transport that will be required to ensure Elijah’s medical needs are met.
A series of fundraising events are being held including a concert and an online auction for an original piece of artwork by artist Becky Milnor.
One of Kaddy’s dreams has been to go to DisneyLand in Florida - but with his health conditions the total cost of the holiday to exceed £300,000 - with most of this being the cost of appropriate travel arrangement.
Kaddy’s organisation, Carers Collective, which aims to empower those caring for loved ones and provides them with fully funded Coaching for Carers courses to help them learn to manage the inevitable stress, is about to register as a charity.
The event is being supported by Unique Community Services, part of Catalyst Care Group, and is being held at their head office in Bristol.
