HOLLY Hedge Animal Sanctuary will be holding their biggest fundraising event of the year this September.
The Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary Funday will take place on Sunday, September 10, at Ashton Court. Attendees can arrive from 11am and the event is expected to finish at 4pm.
The sanctuary is located in Barrow Gurney and provides a safe haven for cats, dogs, and other creatures.
Its founder, Pauline, has been rescuing animals for over 40 years, originally offering unwanted or abused creatures sanctuary in her home.
The charity's website reads: "Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary was first registered as a charity in 1982 and was known as ‘Animal Concern’ it was run by Pauline Leeson (our founder) who worked from her own home with the support of foster carers.
"Her aim has always been to provide a safe haven for cats and dogs (and sometimes other small furries) until loving, permanent and responsible new owners in the Bristol and surrounding areas can be found; and this continues to be the purpose of the charity today."
Around 800 animals are rescued and rehomed every year, and it costs around £650,000 annually to run the sanctuary.
With no government funding, events like these are essential to ensure the facility can carry on with its vital work.
A spokesperson from the sanctuary said: "This is a fantastic family day out and our biggest fundraising event of the year attracting up to 5,000 people.
"We have a range of independent stalls, food and drinks as well as children's inflatable assault course and bouncy castle, tombola and big prize raffle!
"For our canine companions, we have our annual fun dog show with classes including Pawfect Puppy, Golden Oldie, Gorgeous Gal, Handsome Chappie, Child and Best Four Legged Friend, Dog Most Like Their Owner, Best Holly Hedge Rescue and of course Best in Show.
"We will also have a game of Musical Sits, have a go agility and doggy sprint!
"Entry is just £2 for adults, children and dogs are free!
"Additional designated parking will be available from the entrance next to the Ashton pub, parking charges will apply. Located close to local bus stops. Everyone is welcome!"
