THE Met Office has upgraded its forecast of thunder and lightning across a swathe of Somerset today (Sunday, July 9) to an official weather warning.
The yellow thunderstorm warning will be in place for nine hours from 11am until 8pm.
It advises that heavy showers and thunderstorms may cause disruption in some places.
Here's what the Met Office tells us to expect:
- There is a good chance that driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus. Flooding is also likely to affect a few roads;
- Delays to train services are possible;
- Possible damage to a few homes and businesses, from either flooding or lightning strikes;
- Some short term loss of power and other services could occur.
Take care if you have to go out.
