A LARGE diesel spillage caused hours of disruption on the M5 in North Somerset yesterday (June 29) after a lorry struck debris.
At 11.27am, National Highways reported that two lanes were closed on the southbound carriageway between Clevedon (junction 20) and Weston-super-Mare (junction 21).
Drivers faced up to eight miles of congestion before one lane was able to re-open.
However, overnight resurfacing works were required, closing the entire southbound carriageway between 10pm and 4am.
In the early hours, a spokesperson for National Highways South West said:"The scene is now clear and the M5 southbound has re-opened between J19 (Portishead, Bristol south) and J21 (Weston-super-Mare) following an emergency re-surfacing operation.
"Thank you for your patience, please have a safe onward journey."
