A wet and windy weekend awaited young North Somerset Athletics Club athletes as they took part in the seventh running of a mammoth and unique challenge recently.
Over 130 juniors and their families were involved keeping a mock Olympic flame moving non-stop around the historic Weston-super-Mare Grand Pier for a full 24 hours.
The effort saw around £12k raised for both the Junior Athletic Club, helping towards development and improvement of training area at Clevedon School, as well as equipment, and to Children's Hospice South West to support their amazing work.
"This is the seventh event we have run, it is extremely motivating seeing the new team arrive every hour," event organiser and head coach Chris Millard said.
“If you want to be inspired, seeing a dozen or more excited young athletes running, singing and dancing around the Pier will do it, especially in the rain!
"The emotion felt at the end of the 24 hours, knowing that the team had successfully kept the Olympic Torch moving around the Pier without stopping for 24 hours, is high”
"Thank you to everyone who attended, especially the 24-hour heroes, those who raised crazy amounts of money, anyone who ran massive distances, the night shift, and The Grand Pier, WSM for the support."
