TALENTED gardeners, bakers and artists will be showcasing the first fruits of their labour of 2023 at Portishead’s Folk Hall this weekend to celebrate the start of spring.
The Portishead Spring Show, the first event of the year on the town’s gardening calendar, will welcome visitors through the doors of the High Street venue, to view the sea of colour and magnificent entries which, in addition to flowers, fruit and vegetables, will include photography, handicrafts, watercolours, cakes and preserves.
Hundreds of entries are expected once again this year from across the whole community, from children to senior citizens.
A spokesman for the show said: “We have had a great deal of interest again this year and the entry forms are pouring in.
“The show provides a great opportunity for community-minded people to take part or just come along and enjoy the lovely displays.”
Organised by the Portishead and District Horticultural Society, the group whose members are also busy preparing for the two-day summer show that takes place in July, the show provides an ideal afternoon out for all the family, with teas, coffee and light lunches available.
The show takes place on Saturday, March 11 at the Folk Hall in Portishead High Street from 12.30pm to 4.30pm. Admission is 50p with free admission for children.
Programme schedules detailing all the classes can be found in many of the High Street shops and on the Visit Portishead website.
