TWO new on-call recruits for Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) celebrated their graduation following their completion of the training course at Severn Park.

The training course provides new on-call firefighters with specialist knowledge and a wide range of practical skills including tactical firefighting, pitching ladders, breathing apparatus, water safety and rescue.

Cameron John and Joseph Cox graduated in an official ceremony alongside fellow recruits from AF&RS and Gloucestershire Fire & Rescue Service.

Cameron and Joseph were presented with their completion certificates and will now go on to serve their communities in Portishead and Nailsea as part of the on-call response crew.

In addition, Joseph was presented with the Recruits’ Recruit, voted for by the trainee firefighters, and Cameron was presented with the coveted Silver Axe award which is presented to the firefighter who displays and maintains exemplary standard in all aspects of the training course.

Cameron said: “I grew up around Portishead station and saw how rewarding this job could be."

Joseph added: “I wanted to be an on-call firefighter because it’s both a rewarding and respectable job.”

Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Steve Imrie, said: “Congratulations to our new on-call firefighters, Cameron and Joseph.

“I wish them the best of luck as they respond to incidents and help their communities.”
