A CARE home in Clevedon has reached the finals of a regional care awards event.
Winash Residential Care Home was nominated for the top spot at the Care and West Awards for care home of the year and support staff member of the year.
The winners were announced at a special Gala Dinner held at Ashton Gate Stadium on October 8.
Housekeeper Andi Richards was recognised for her high standards of cleaning for more than 40 years at Winash.
Top chiefs at the home said Andi implemented 'impeccable infection control measures' throughout the Covid pandemic, and her kindness to residents and understanding of their needs continues to be outstanding.
Heather House, one of the managers, said: "After a very difficult time through the pandemic, I am so pleased the staff were recognised for their enthusiasm and support of the health and social care sector and their dedication to our residents.
"The news comes at an exciting time for Winash as they have just rolled out its fresh, modern new logo."
The home also works closely with Rydal Day Nursery to help residents and children to come together and enjoy activities such as garden games and story time.
Residents are encouraged to continue their community links with churches and clubs and recently attended Clevedon Pier for a Poetry on the Pier event.
Heather added: "We were extremely proud to have been nominated at the regional care awards.
"Winash stood out against other homes nominated and this may be, in part, due to the innovative ideas and projects we are involved with.
"In the area of research and development, we have signed up to be a part of the University West of England’s AFRI-C project, which is researching the effectiveness of the use of HEPA air filters in care homes to see if it reduces respiratory illnesses.
"We are looking forward to contributing to the research project and hope that it will help to improve the quality of life for many older people."
