HOMES and gardens in Clevedon will be opened to the public in a bid to encourage more people to become energy efficient.

Environmental group Transition Clevedon has organised the event which will see five properties open their doors on Saturday to show off what their owners have done to make their houses, as well as their lifestyles, more environmentally friendly.

The aim of the day is to share knowledge on how people can reduce their home energy bills, decrease their carbon footprint and also live more sustainably. With rising fuel prices and concerns over climate change, more people are looking for ways of reducing their bills and their carbon emissions.

The properties will be open from 11am-5pm when residents will be on hand to explain the energy-saving methods they have introduced.

The following houses will be open: 7 Macleod Close featuring photovoltaic panels, underfloor insulation, a wood burner and chickens; 3 Glebe Road featuring photovoltaic panels, solar thermal for hot water and a bee-friendly garden; 8 Glebe Road featuring chickes, a vegetable and fruit garden and photovoltaic panels; 7 Griffin Road including an immerSUN water heater, open fires and a herb garden; 24 Dial Hill Road featuring underfloor insulation, rain water usage and a vegetable garden.
