A Portishead couple toasted their 65th wedding anniversary at a retirement home on April 14.

Peggy and Dennis Welsford got married at St John’s Church in Clifton back in 1952 and while a lot has happened in those intervening years, their love remains as strong as ever.

Dennis was a greengrocer and ran a store in Stoke Bishop for more than two decades, before they decided to jointly run a hotel in Redland.

They have one daughter, Dawn Low, and two grandchildren, Oliver and Samantha.

Dawn said: “They recently became great-grandparents with the arrival of baby Sonny, who travelled from London to join them at the party.”

Peggy, aged 84, and Dennis, aged 86, now live at St Peter’s Lodge in High Street and were determined to stay together, even though they do not live independently anymore.
