Portishead Yacht and Sailing Club (PYSC) is celebrating the success of its youth sailing team member Dru Townsend who was selected to represent the Royal Yacht Association British Youth Sailing Team at the 2019 Topper Irish National Championships. All the sailors were chosen based on performances in their age group at recent regattas.
Meanwhile back at the Portishead club, members enjoyed taking a group of bird watchers, who have been monitoring and tagging birds on the island for many years, to Denny Island.
PYSC also welcomed sailor Ken Fowler as he sailed around Denny Island as part of his attempt to sail his dinghy around every island in the UK.
PYSC aims to make sailing as accessible and affordable as possible and welcomes new members. A club fleet means boats can be hired for as little as £10 a time. The club has a thriving cadet section and a buddy system which gives visitors and new members the chance to sail with an experienced person. n
