Joyce Audrey Fray

FRAY Joyce Audrey Family and friends recently paid tribute to the life and faith of Joyce Audrey Fray, who died peacefully on September 20. Joyce was born on 25th May 1929 in London, relocating to Lincolnshire during the war. During this time, she also met her future husband, Gordon whom she married in 1953. Joyce trained as a primary teacher, eventually moving to Sandhurst where children Helen, Jonathan, Andrew, and Catherine were born. Joyce and Gordon moved to Portishead in 1963 and were members of the congregation at St. Peters. Her skills as a baker, and kindness, were appreciated by many throughout Portishead, and we thank those who sent messages of sympathy. Returning to teaching, she worked briefly at Gordano School, and High Down in Portishead and St. Mary's Portbury, before joining the Downs Preparatory School, Wraxall. Here she specialized in remedial reading a job she loved. Joyce was an enthusiastic gardener and loved working alongside her husband. Together they made a wonderful team during 69 years of marriage, enjoying watching their grandchildren grow up and great-grandchildren join the family. Her funeral took place at St. Peters Church, Portishead, on October 11.
