GALE SHEILA. The Funeral of Mrs Sheila Gale (nee Postles) aged 87 years will be held on Monday 1st April at 10.00am at St. Andrews Church, Clevedon. She died peacefully at Elm View Nursing Home, after a short battle with cancer. Born in Manchester, Sheila graduated from Leeds University, and had a short career working at the Bristol Aircraft Company as a scientific analyst. Married to Alfred (Alf) Gale, John was born in 1960, and David three years later. Unknown at the time, John was finally diagnosed with cerebral palsy when he was three. For the next 30 years Sheila devoted most of her life to Johns care and support for charities such as Mencap and Scope to raise awareness of people with learning disabilities. Sheila and Alf originally lived in Frenchay, moving to Cambridge in the early 70s, and to Clevedon in the early 80s. Sheila was always keen to compete in competitions, joining Mensa, as well as Cooking, Flower Arranging and Photography as hobbies. Sheila spent several years with the WRVS, and "meals on wheels" service in and around Clevedon. In later years she helped with North Somerset Mencap, as well as the ladies lunch club. Sheila was an active bridge player until declining eyesight meant she could no longer play. With John happily residing at St Brigas, Sheila continued to live a short distance away until deciding a retreat to the "Hawthorns" was better suited to her needs. Sadly, a bad fall in June last year was something she never fully recovered from. No flowers please, but donations may be sent to North Somerset Mencap. Please make cheques payable to the charity.
