MICHAEL JOHN CLAY

MICHAEL JOHN CLAY
MICHAEL JOHN CLAY It is with great sadness that the family of Mr Michael John Clay announces his passing. Michael was born on the 18th August 1934 to John and Alice Clay (nee Bell) in Matlock, Derbyshire. He died on the 31st January 2021 at Poets Mews Care Home in Clevedon. Michael attended Retford Boys School, joining The Westminster Bank at 16. At 18 he did two years’ National Service in the RAF. Those who knew Michael, know that he was always on the move, both at work and in leisure. He worked his way swiftly through the Bank Grades, starting Doncaster moving to Lutterworth, Derby Leicester, Leamington Spa, London, Nottingham, Grimsby, Scunthorpe, Liverpool and Bristol, where he retired as Corporate Manager of Nat West. He was equally busy in his leisure time, a keen cyclist, sailor and golfer. He loved to travel, enjoying both cruises and walking holidays in his later years. He especially loved driving The Garden Route in South Africa. He was a member of Clevedon Golf Club and attended St Mary’s Church, making many friends in the community. It was through sailing that he met his wife, Pamela (nee Woodhouse), at Trent Sailing Club. They married in 1963 and she sadly passed away in 2015. He valiantly cared for her during her last 5 years of life. Michael leaves behind his sister Judith, daughters Alison and Katie, and grandchildren Charlotte and George of whom he was very proud. The Funeral Service is to be held at Weston-super-Mare Crematorium on 18th February 2021 at 12.30pm. Attendance is by invitation only. (Family flowers only). The family hope to hold a Memorial Service later in the year. Donations received on behalf of Prostate Cancer UK in memory of Michael may be sent to c/o R.G.Rawlings, 5 Woodlands Road, Clevedon, North Somerset, BS21 7QD. “Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rage at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.”
