Alan Stonestreet
ALAN STONESTREET A true Posset lad, local through and through, Keeping an eye on our town in everything you do. Brought up in South Road, then moves to Nore Road and Channel View Crescent, For you Portishead life has always been pleasant. In later years you moved to Avon Way, Close to family and friends, thats where you will stay. Ninety years of history since your birth in 1924, a changing village, familiar faces, you were 21 at the end of the Second World War. After the RAF, came the CEGB, The Power Station stood proud, Stations A & B, A Railway Station until closure by the axe of Beeching, Hopefully youll see its return if the politicians stop bleating. Growing up with brothers Brian and Pete, You were the eldest son of Bert Stonestreet, You then married Hilda and raised a family, Son Colin and daughter Pauline to the delight of your mum Ruby. Singing and socialising at the Lake Grounds, camp fires on pebble beaches with no sand, Remember the Beehive Shelter, when having fun wasnt banned! The years passed and the station chimneys came down, You have seen much new development in your town. After a serious leg injury the doctors said you may not walk again, But with your strong will and determination you overcame the pain, Defeating a further diagnosis, you dance regularly at the Avon Hall, With good friends of your era, you all keep so nimble. Portishead has many characters which make it a grand place to be, You are one of the finest with a real sense of community. Thanks for passing on the history of our beloved Portishead, Now theres just one last thing to be said. No better role model could anyone need, Your advice and wisdom is what we always heed, Uncle Alan youve taught us so much along the way, Enjoy yourself and have a very happy 90th Birthday. Love Anne, Paul, Jack and Jemma x
